“In my world, my studio space and my home life are interconnected. I can’t imagine working in any other way. Situated directly off my living room, my studio blends into the bliss and chaos of family life. Cats, teenagers, dinner preparation and homework meld together with inspiration, ideas, and a spectacular view of the ocean and mountains surrounding Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. In this way, my art becomes an everyday influence and exploration -- an extension of how I live my life. The walls of our home serve as a gallery and hold a sampling of my work done throughout the years, much like one’s family photos.”

“Colours, patterns, shapes and textures are all around me. From the fruit I pick for my home preserves to the weathered wood sheltering the horses in their barns, I surround myself with vignettes of study and intrigue - parts of an old gumboot tossed ashore, found half-buried in the sand, tacked up next to dried poppy leaves from a friend’s garden. Part memento, part muse. Each day on the farm is an invitation to observe – a reminder of the connection between art and life, technology and the natural world, the miraculous and the mundane.”

I’m not one that likes to be in front of a camera much but sometimes I do like to share my process and show a peek into my world. Here is a short video of me working on a new series of textural works on paper.
